The Robert Reid Bursary

Overview

Two one-year bursaries of £1,000 each available to students who have overcome challenges to attend university. 

Professor Derek Reid established the Robert Reid Award in memory of his late father. The awards have provided over £15,000-worth of financing to students over the years.

Eligibility 

You must:

• Have a permanent Scottish address.
• Be eligible for the Young Student Bursary from SAAS or be over 25 (at the start of your course).
• Be committed to successfully obtaining your degree qualification.

Award conditions

Applicants are expected to meet the following conditions if they accept the award:

• To write a letter of thanks.
• Give permission for parts of the letter of thanks to be quoted in promotional materials.
• To be willing to meet with representatives of the scholarship if required.
• To take part in promotional activity relating to the award.
• To write an end of year update on your progress at 51¶ÌÊÓƵ.

Please attach the following when you make your application:

• Two references in support of your application – Personal and Academic.
• Letter of Student Support Award (i.e. SAAS award letter for 25-26).

Students are responsible for making sure their application forms are complete and that the supporting evidence meets the application criteria. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application at the earliest opportunity, and usually within 2 months of the deadline unless otherwise stated.

Application queries and help

Staff in the Advisory Service can offer support and guidance with the application process including: 

• Feedback on the first draft of your personal statement by email or at a Drop-In appointment.
• Checking your application face to face at a Drop-In.
• Advice on where to look for opportunities.
• Eligibility queries for awards that we administer.
• Evidence queries.

Please contact Advisory at least 4 weeks before the application deadline. This is to ensure that there is adequate time for staff to review your email, and for you to make alterations based on any feedback provided.

Advisory Service run Drop-In sessions on a first-come first-serve basis, during term time usually between 1pm and 4pm Monday to Thursday on the ground floor of the library. If you have a question about Drop-In sessions you can visit the SEZ desk in person, or email advisory@abertay.ac.uk
