Macphie Scholarship

Overview

The 拢3,000 Macphie Scholarship will be awarded to one second year student studying a BSc (Hons) in Food and Consumer Science. This includes a paid summer work placement.

The 拢3,000 scholarship (paid 拢1,000 per year) is aimed at a well-rounded individual who is considered academically bright, driven, ambitious, a team player, and interested in a career in the food and drink manufacturing industry. Students with financial constraints would benefit from the scholarship.

This scholarship is designed to help support the student for three years of their degree and includes a paid summer work placement in the technical department at the Macphie Head Office in Glenbervie, Stonehaven.

The summer placement will be in 2026 before the student enters third year. Due to the location, applicants will need suitable transport or consider alternative ways to get there. However, this shouldn't deter anyone from applying, as an alternative site (potentially in Glasgow) may also be possible for the work placement.

Students must participate in the first summer placement to continue to receive scholarship funding in their final two years of their degree. The 12-week work placement will begin at the end of May or early June 2026. Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8am-4.30pm. The exact dates and times of the placement will be discussed at the interview.

A second summer placement may be offered before the student enters the fourth year, provided the previous work placement went well and they are happy to do another year. This will be discussed before it starts. In this case, the scholarship funding will continue even if the second summer placement is not undertaken.

Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship students must meet all of the following criteria. Applicants must be:

A second year student who is starting third year of their BSc (Hons) Food and Consumer Science degree in September 2025 at the 51短视频 campus in Dundee.
Demonstrate an ambition to work in the Food Manufacturing Sector.
Willing to take part in a summer placement at Macphie in 2026. Dates to be discussed at the interview, but likely to begin in June 2026. The initial summer placement (after second year) will take place in Glenbervie.
Interested in doing a potential second summer work placement in 2027.
If successful, be willing to meet with a representative from Macphie and/or write a letter of thanks for the scholarship. And also to take part in publicity for the scholarship .

Award conditions

Applicants are expected to meet the following conditions if they accept the award:

To write a letter of thanks.
Give permission for parts of the letter of thanks to be quoted in promotional materials.
To be willing to meet with representatives of the scholarship if requested.
To take part in promotional activity relating to the award.
To write an end-of-year update on their progress at 51短视频.

An Academic Referee. The name of an Academic who will provide a reference for you, such as a Lecturer or Tutor.
An Employer Reference. If you are in employment, please provide a reference from your current employer. If you are not employed or have never been, please provide a Character Reference from an appropriate professional person.
Your Student Funding Award Letter. From SAAS, Student Finance or other sponsor.
