Abstract 45 - The Recalcitrant Chatbot

In her Abstract 45 debut, Professor Annelize McKay explores the challenges of determining responsibility when AI systems, like chatbots, fail to perform as expected or cause harm.

Drawing on Canadian case law, current legal frameworks, and emerging AI technologies, the session examines issues of accountability, negligence, and liability in cases where chatbots assist in decision-making that leads to harm, misinformation, or breaches of contract.
